Updated: Apr 20

Dr. Worth Hayes as Guest Presenter at the Cahn Leadership Lab in Atlanta, Georgia, 2024

Dr. Worth Hayes, Avalon Professor in the Humanities and Social Sciences and Associate Professor of History and Africana Studies at Morehouse College, was a guest speaker of the Cahn Leadership Lab in Atlanta, GA on February 4, 2024. After experiencing  a tour at the historic Rosa Parks Museum in Montgomery, Alabama, the Principals attending the Cahn Leadership Lab met back in Atlanta, GA to listen to Professor Hayes.

Listening closely to Dr. Hayes presentation about the civil rights movement in comparison to current times, the educational leaders offered effusive responses. Hayes spoke passionately about the historical moments of the civil rights movement and related it to current trends. He challenged the Principals in attendance to consider,  "What will you do with your moment in history?"

The Cahn Leadership Lab, a program dedicated to the empowerment of Principals by connecting them with Historians or History teachers, received wide acclaim this past February. Dr. Hayes' presentation was designed to connect the historical implications to the work that school leaders must approach with the same hope and bravery as the leaders who disrupted systems that led to the civil rights act of 1965.

The educational leaders in attendance offered effusive responses to Dr. Hayes' presentation. "I appreciate Dr. Hayes and the way he articulated the human story of Rosa Parks and weaving the thread of organizing and education as a powerful way to achieve justice. "

"What an amazing experience!!!!" Ronald Garlington

A Principal attending the Cahn Leadership Lab

Crystal Mayfield Jones, Program Director of the Cahn Fellowship Institute, stated "Dr. Hayes' presentation perfectly connected our work as education leaders to the social justice work of past civil rights leaders. He highlighted specifically leaders who impacted the education rights that were achieved and the high expectations that were set in education for African Americans in the past. His words were inspiring and a call to action for our principals. We look forward to continued partnership."

Since 2002, Cahn Fellowship Institute has provided advanced leadership development and recognition in large metropolitan areas to strong, talented school leaders to improve public education. that led to the civil rights act of 1965.
