Dr. Worth Kamili Hayes

Personal Profile

Worth Kamili Hayes is the Avalon Professor in the Humanities and Social Sciences, and Associate Professor of History and Africana Studies at Morehouse College.

 

Prior to joining Morehouse, Hayes served as Associate Professor of History and Director of Assessment at Tuskegee University. He received his B.A. in History from Xavier University of Louisiana and earned his M.A. and Ph.D. in History from Emory University.

 

Hayes is the author of the award-winning publication Schools of Our Own: Black Chicago’s Golden Age of Private Education. The book was published in 2020 by Northwestern University Press. His work on African American education, urbanization, and post-World War II activism has been published in the U.S. Catholic Historian, American Educational History Journal, and several edited volumes.

 

Dr. Hayes is the recipient of awards from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Andrew W. Mellon/United Negro College Fund, the American Educational Studies Association, the Vivian G. Harsh Society, and the American Honda Motor Company.
